A colorful mix of oats, matcha, chia seeds, and strawberries for a wholesome breakfast boost.

# Components:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup rolled oats, gluten-free
02 - 2 tablespoons chia seeds
03 - 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
04 - 2 teaspoons maple syrup
05 - 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Matcha Layer

06 - 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
07 - 2 tablespoons hot water

→ Strawberry Layer

08 - 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
09 - 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
10 - 1 teaspoon maple syrup

→ Toppings

11 - 1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries
12 - 2 tablespoons extra chia seeds
13 - 2 tablespoons coconut flakes

# Directions:

01 - In a medium mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, chia seeds, almond milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
02 - In a small bowl, whisk matcha powder with hot water until completely smooth and free of lumps. Gently stir the matcha mixture into the oat base until the color is evenly distributed.
03 - In another bowl, combine chopped strawberries with lemon juice and maple syrup. Mash gently with the back of a spoon until the berries are partially broken down but retain some texture.
04 - In mason jars or serving glasses, alternately layer the oat-matcha mixture and strawberry mash. Begin and finish with the oat mixture as the top layer for visual appeal.
05 - Cover the jars or glasses with lids or plastic wrap. Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours, preferably overnight, allowing the oats and chia seeds to fully absorb the liquid and develop optimal texture.
06 - Remove from refrigeration and gently stir to incorporate any settled layers. Top each portion with fresh sliced strawberries, additional chia seeds, and coconut flakes. Serve chilled immediately.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It actually tastes like you put thought into breakfast instead of just grabbing whatever's closest.
  • Everything is ready when you wake up, no morning scrambling or cleanup.
  • The matcha gives you a gentle energy boost that feels way better than your third coffee.
  • Fresh strawberries and creamy oats somehow taste even better after sitting together overnight.
02 -
  • Don't skip the whisking step with matcha or you'll end up with a gritty texture that feels like chalk, and that defeats the whole purpose.
  • The magic happens in the overnight sit—rushing this with just an hour or two means your oats stay crunchy and separate instead of becoming that creamy dream texture.
  • Fresh lemon juice on the strawberries isn't just flavor, it's preservation—it keeps them from browning and maintains that bright color through the night.
03 -
  • Invest in a proper matcha whisk or even just use a fork aggressively—lumpy matcha will haunt you, and smooth matcha changes everything about the texture.
  • Make three or four jars at once on Sunday so you have grab-and-go breakfasts all week without the daily assembly work.
